Visiting Rules for Children and Teens at East Mississippi Correctional Facility: ID and Who Can Come
Bringing a child or teen to visit at East Mississippi Correctional Facility comes down to two things: who's accompanying them and what ID you have. Check the age-based rules below so you don't get turned away at check-in.
Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. This isn't flexible - showing up with another relative or family friend will get the visit denied. The adult needs to stay through the entire check-in and visit.
Children 15 and under need a legible birth certificate. No birth certificate? A photo ID works, but it must clearly show the child's date of birth.
Teens ages 16–17 need a picture ID showing their date of birth. They also must be on the offender's approved visiting list before you arrive. Double-check the list ahead of time - and remember, since they're under 18, they still need a parent or legal guardian with them.
All adult visitors (18+) must present valid picture ID at check-in. A driver’s license, state ID, or passport works as long as it’s valid.
General visitation allows a maximum of five people at one time - babies and children count toward that number. Larger group? Someone will need to wait or rotate in rather than trying to enter together.
Visiting someone in the Youthful Offender Unit? The limit is smaller - only four people per visitation period.
Youthful Offender Unit visits are restricted to specific visitor categories: parents or legal guardians, grandparents, siblings, spouses, the youth's children (with an approved visitor), the youth's attorney, and clergy from their home community. Siblings can visit at any age, but those over 14 need proper photo identification. Adults should have valid picture ID ready at check-in.
