What to Bring (and What to Leave Behind) on Visitation Day at East Mississippi Correctional Facility
Visitation day goes smoother when you show up with the right paperwork—and leave everything else locked in your car. Here's how to pack for East Mississippi Correctional Facility without getting turned away at the door.
Before you plan the drive, confirm you're approved to visit. The inmate starts this process by sending out the Application for Visiting Privileges to people they want to see. Fill out every section, mail it to the MDOC address in the packet, and wait for approval before making travel plans.
If you’re 18 or older, bring a valid photo ID. A driver’s license, state ID, or passport works - just make sure it’s current and in your hand when you check in.
Bringing kids? Plan ahead. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Visitors 16 and older need a photo ID showing their date of birth and must be on the offender's approved list. For children 15 and under, bring a legible birth certificate - unless they have a photo ID with their date of birth.

- Wait for written approval - once you’ve complied with the requirements, the Area Warden (or designee) will notify you in writing if you’re approved to bring the medication into the prison’s visiting area.
- Present your photo ID - staff will check your identification at the visitation center.
- Sign the visitor register - you’ll be required to sign the visitor sign-in log/register.
