5 Things That Will Get Your Visit Denied at East Moline (and How to Avoid Them)
Most denied visits are preventable. Here are the most common reasons people get turned away at East Moline Correctional Center—and how to make sure it doesn't happen to you.
If you're not on the incarcerated person's approved visitation list, you won't get in. It's that simple. Children, government officials, and legal visitors are exceptions - everyone else needs to be listed and approved before showing up.
Being on the approved list isn't enough. All adult visitors (18 and older) - except legal visitors and government officials - must complete a Prospective Visitor's Interview (PVI), DOC 0148, before their first visit. Show up without it and you're looking at delays or a flat-out refusal.
Tip: Staff won't confirm your visitor status over the phone. Your best bet is to write to the incarcerated person and ask them to verify you're on the list and that your PVI is on file.
Wrong ID? You're not getting past check-in. Adults need two forms of identification, and one must be a current state-issued photo ID. Gather them the night before and keep them with you - not in the car.
Reason3 Contraband Items
- ✓ Cell phones, tablets, smart watches, or other electronic devices
- ✓ Food or drink
- ✓ Purses, bags, books, magazines, sunglasses, or personal keys
- ✓ Any pills or medication of any type (exception: physician-prescribed heart medication or an asthma inhaler; heart medication must be in a properly labeled container)
- ✓ Plan to use the small lockers in the Visiting Center for personal items you’re not allowed to take into the Visiting Room
The facility takes contraband seriously. Incarcerated individuals are strip-searched entering and leaving the visiting room - anything found on them afterward that wasn't there before counts as contraband. Keep the visit focused on conversation. Don't hand off anything, even if it seems harmless.
Expect a body search at the Visitor Center. You'll also be turned away if you appear intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If there's any chance you won't pass, reschedule. Don't waste the trip.
Sometimes you can do everything right and still get turned away. The chief administrative officer can deny, suspend, or restrict visits for security reasons, space constraints, disruptive behavior, abuse of visiting privileges, or rule violations. If it happens, stay calm. Ask what the specific issue is and what needs to change before your next attempt.
