What to Wear (and What Not to Wear) When Visiting EKCC

EKCC expects modest clothing appropriate for a correctional setting. If your outfit could be seen as revealing or attention-grabbing, change before you go. Visitors who don't meet the dress code get turned away.

Your shirt needs to fully cover your shoulders, cleavage, and midriff. When in doubt, choose the option with more coverage - especially since you'll be standing and moving around during check-in.

You’re required to wear appropriate undergarments, and they can’t be visible. That includes situations where fabric is thin or gaps open when you bend or reach - if undergarments show, staff can treat it as a dress-code violation.

Shoes are required. EKCC doesn't allow bare feet.

EKCC prohibits clothing that's provocative, revealing, see-through, or excessively tight. Even if something technically covers you, sheer fabric or an extremely form-fitting cut can still get you turned away.

Watch the length on shorts, dresses, and skirts. If the hem sits more than 2 inches above your knee while standing, it's prohibited. Check while standing normally - not sitting.

Sleeveless tops are a common reason visitors get stopped. Tank tops, halter tops, tube tops, and any sleeveless shirts are all prohibited.

Staff have the final say. Even with clear rules, EKCC officers decide in the moment whether your clothing complies. If you're on the borderline, expect they may ask you to change.

  1. Listen to what staff flags - if they say your clothing violates the dress code, they’re the ones who decide whether it’s acceptable.
  2. Correct it if you can - you may be given a chance to fix the issue on the spot, such as changing clothes or covering up.
  3. Be ready for denial if it can’t be fixed - if the problem can’t be corrected, you’ll be denied entry for that visit.
