Visitation

How to Apply for Visiting Approval at Eastern Reception & Diagnostic Center (ERDCC)

Before you can visit someone at ERDCC, you need to get approved through the Missouri Department of Corrections (DOC) visiting application. Here's what you need, how to submit, and what happens after that.

ERDCC requires visiting pre-approval through the Missouri DOC visiting application process. Don't plan a trip or show up until you know you've been approved.

  1. Look the person up in Missouri DOC’s Offender Web Search to confirm they are in Missouri DOC custody and to find their DOC identification number.
  2. Write down the DOC ID exactly as shown. You will need the DOC ID to submit the online visiting application.
  3. Keep the DOC ID handy while you apply since the online form will not submit without it.

Head to the Missouri Department of Corrections Online Visiting Application (the public visiting application on Missouri DOC's website). You'll need the offender's DOC ID to get started. The form won't let you submit without it.

Step By Step Form

  • Enter the offender’s DOC ID.
  • Complete every field marked with an asterisk (*). Those are required.
  • Read what you’re agreeing to before you sign and submit.
  • Agree to comply with all visiting regulations, including search requirements.

Heads up: Don't use the online application if you're applying for clergy status, or if you're a minor visitor applying for an offender restricted to adult-only visits. For a minor child on the online form, choose "other" for ID type and enter "NA" for the identification number.

Not sure whether the online form applies to you? If you fall into a special category (clergy status, or a minor visitor for an offender restricted to adult-only visits), reach out to ERDCC's Institutional Case Manager before submitting anything.

Once you complete the form and click Finish, your application goes electronically to the institutional case manager for processing. Don't worry if you don't get an instant yes or no on the screen. That's normal.

Missouri DOC runs a criminal history check as part of processing your application. Answer everything thoroughly and honestly. The information you provide is reviewed as part of the approval decision.

The approval decision goes to the offender, and they're responsible for letting you know your visiting status. If you're waiting to hear back, checking in with your incarcerated loved one is usually the fastest way to find out.

If your application is denied, you can appeal by mail. Send your appeal letter within 30 days to: Missouri Department of Corrections, Attn: Deputy Division Director of Adult Institutions, 2729 Plaza Drive, PO Box 236, Jefferson City, MO 65102.

Quick Checklist

  • Confirm you have the offender’s DOC ID before you start, since you cannot submit without it.
  • Fill out every required field marked with an asterisk (*).
  • Make sure you agree to comply with visiting regulations, including search requirements.
  • If you are applying as clergy, or as a minor visitor for an offender restricted to adult-only visits, contact ERDCC’s Institutional Case Manager instead of submitting online.
