Bring a valid, government-issued photo ID to check in. A current driver's license or Department of Revenue ID card works. You'll also need to be pre-approved before you show up. That means completing the visiting application and waiting for final approval ahead of time.

ID Small Items

  • Coins only, if you plan to use vending machines (put them in a clear sandwich bag or a transparent plastic pouch)
  • Plan for everything else to be stored, small lockers are available at most institutions

Life-sustaining medication and medical equipment are allowed during your visit, but there are rules. Items like nitroglycerin, insulin and insulin supplies, oxygen, or asthma inhalers must be in the original container. Only bring the dosage (or amount) you'll need for the visiting period.

  1. Notify the case manager in advance - Let them know you will need medical supplies during visitation so staff are aware of your needs.
  2. Tell staff when you arrive - Check in and clearly state that you need medication during the visit.
  3. Show the original containers - Bring medications or inhalers in their original container so staff can verify them.

Clothing Appearance

  • Tight clothing
  • Transparent or revealing clothing
  • Excessively baggy clothing
  • Clothing with gang, racial, or inflammatory language or symbols
  • Camouflage designs

You'll go through security screening when you enter. The Missouri DOC uses the Intercept full-body scanner for visitors at adult institutions, along with walk-through and hand-held metal detectors and X-ray baggage scanners.

If you'll need medication during your visit, plan ahead. Notify the case manager in advance, then let staff know when you arrive. Only life-sustaining medications and medical equipment are permitted. Keep everything in the original container, and bring only the dosage you'll need for the visiting period.
