Sending Clothing Packages to Erie County Inmates: What's Allowed and How to Order

If you’re trying to get clothing to someone at the Erie County Holding Center, plan on ordering it - not dropping it off. Jail Management Division facilities no longer accept clothing or packages brought to the facility by family or friends. Any package that is allowed has to be purchased from, and mailed in by, a company whose ordinary business includes selling and shipping those items.

Clothing packages are tightly limited: an inmate can receive only one (1) clothing package per stay. For males, the contents have to stay within the specific counts and the clothing rules - white only, no logos, and T-shirts must have no pockets. If you order outside these limits, the package may not be accepted, so it’s worth double-checking the item details before you submit the order.

Don’t try to send sneakers in a package. Incoming sneakers aren’t allowed as property, with only two exceptions: sneakers purchased through the inmate commissary, or the pair the inmate was wearing when they came into the facility at the time of arrest. If shoes are what you’re trying to solve, that usually means commissary is the path that works.

However you place the order, keep the facility’s package rule in mind: incoming packages must be purchased from and mailed by a company whose ordinary business includes the sale and shipping of those items - personal mailings and drop-offs don’t meet that requirement.

2. Pick the correct list (male vs. female) - each has specific item counts, and the inmate can receive only one clothing package per stay.
3. Match the clothing requirements exactly - stick to white-only items with no logos; for males, choose T-shirts with no pockets; for females, choose bras with no bones or underwires.
4. Skip sneakers entirely - they won’t be accepted as incoming property unless they’re commissary-purchased or were worn in at arrest.
