FRDC Visiting Checklist: What You Can (and Can’t) Bring and How to Dress

FRDC allows up to 3 visitors per offender, plus up to 3 additional children age 5 and under. Good news if you're coming as a family - just confirm your headcount before you travel.

  • Coins in a clear sandwich bag or transparent plastic pouch (for vending machines)

Medical items: Life-sustaining medications and equipment - nitroglycerin, insulin and insulin supplies, oxygen, asthma inhalers - must be in their original containers with only the amount needed for your visit. Let staff know in advance, and again when you arrive, if you'll need to use medication during visitation.

Infant Supplies

  • 1 clear carry-all
  • 6 diapers
  • 1 blanket
  • Up to 3 clear plastic bottles of prepared infant beverage
  • 1 clear plastic no-spill toddler cup
  • 3 unopened vendor containers of baby food
  • 1 plastic pacifier, teether and/or rattle
  • 1 small plastic spoon
  • 1 unopened package of baby wipes

Brought something you can't take inside? Small lockers are available at most institutions for basics like your purse, wallet, or keys. Still, travel light - lockers fit small personal items, not a full load of bags.

FRDC Visiting Checklist: What You Can (and Can’t) Bring and How to Dress

Dress Code

  • Tight, transparent, revealing, or excessively baggy clothing
  • Clothing with gang, racial, inappropriate, or inflammatory language or symbols
  • Camouflage designs
  • Skirts, dresses, or shorts shorter than the top of the kneecap when standing
  • Wrap-around skirts/dresses or skirts/dresses with slits
  • Pants with holes or slits

Dress for approval on the first try. Shirts, blouses, and tops must cover your chest, cleavage, back, and stomach, with sleeves that cover your shoulders. Headwear isn't allowed unless it's for verified religious purposes - and even then, expect a search.

Metal detectors: Skip undergarments with wire or metal supports - they can trigger the detector and slow down your entry.

Attending an authorized incentive food visit? Container rules are strict: up to four containers total, clear plastic only, no larger than 9x9x4 inches each. These visits require authorization, so confirm you're approved before packing anything.
