How to Get an Inmate's Property Released at Gila County Jail (Appointments & ID Required)

When someone is booked into Gila County Jail, their personal property gets sealed at intake. It stays sealed the entire time they're housed there - right up until release. This is why you can't just show up and ask for items. If property needs to go to someone outside, it has to follow the jail's release process (covered below).

Some items from an inmate's property bin can be released to someone outside while they're still incarcerated - but only if the inmate submits a written request. You can't start this process yourself. Even after the request is submitted, it still needs approval before anything gets handed over. Build in some lead time. Don't expect same-day pickup.

Note: The jail treats inmate clothing differently. Don’t assume clothing can be released under the same “property bin” request process.

How to Get an Inmate's Property Released at Gila County Jail (Appointments & ID Required)

At Gila County Jail, property releases are handled by appointment only. That means you’ll need to schedule a pickup time rather than arriving without notice. If you’re trying to meet a deadline (like a transfer or release date), set the appointment as soon as you can. Waiting often turns into a missed window.

  • Photocopy of the requester’s state ID or driver’s license
  • A valid ID copy (requests won’t be fulfilled without valid identification documentation)

Reminder: Bring the inmate’s approved written request paperwork and the photocopy of your ID to your scheduled appointment.

If an inmate is transferred, the clock starts ticking. Commissary items not picked up within 72 hours of transfer get disposed of. Other personal property has a longer window - 30 days from transfer or release - but after that, it's gone too. If you know there's property to recover, start the release process early. Scrambling at the deadline rarely works out.

To schedule a property-release appointment, call the Gila County Sheriff's Office location handling the inmate - either the Globe facility or the Payson substation. Have the inmate's name and any case or incident information ready so staff can match your request and set up a time. Remember: property is released by appointment only, so this call isn't optional.
