How to Get an Inmate's Property Released to You at Gila County Jail

Gila County operates jail facilities in Globe and at a Payson substation. To coordinate a property release or schedule an appointment, call the Globe Sheriff's Office at (928) 402-8666 or the Payson Substation at (928) 468-2835.

When someone is booked at Gila County Jail, all their personal property gets sealed. It stays that way until they're released. Don't assume you can pick up "everything they came in with" while they're still in custody.

There's one exception: certain items placed in the inmate's property bin during incarceration can be released to an outside party. This doesn't include clothing. The inmate must request the release in writing, and items only go to the rightful owner unless documentation says otherwise.

Want property released while the inmate is still incarcerated? The inmate has to start the process. Under Gila County's rules, property in the inmate's bin (except clothing) can be released to an outside party only after the inmate submits a written request.

Submitting a request doesn't mean automatic approval. All Property & Evidence Return requests must be reviewed and approved before anything gets released. Build in time for this step before you try to schedule pickup.

Property pickups are by appointment only. Once the inmate has submitted a written request and the paperwork is approved, contact the appropriate Gila County jail location to schedule your pickup time. Show up without an appointment and you'll be turned away.

• ✓ Include a photocopy of your state I.D. or driver’s license with the Property & Evidence Return Request Form.
• ✓ Make sure the ID is valid. If you do not provide a valid driver’s license or identification, the request will not be fulfilled.
• ✓ Be prepared to receive the property as the rightful owner, unless you have proper documentation stating otherwise.

2. Complete the Property & Evidence Return Request paperwork - include a photocopy of your state I.D. or driver’s license.
3. Schedule your pickup appointment - property is released by appointment only.
4. Wait for approval - all requests must be approved prior to release.
5. Attend the appointment as the rightful owner - bring whatever proper documentation is needed if the property is not being released directly to the rightful owner.
