What Happens to Personal Property at Booking — And How to Pick It Up from Gila County Jail

At Gila County Jail, all personal property is sealed when an inmate is booked. That property stays sealed until the inmate is released.

Some items go into the inmate's property bin. During incarceration, those items can be released to someone outside the jail - but clothing is the exception. It stays with the inmate and won't be included in any release.

  1. Have the inmate submit a written request - Gila County Jail requires the inmate to authorize a property release in writing.
  2. Confirm you’re picking up property-bin items (not clothing) - items in the property bin can be released to an outside party, with the exception of the inmate’s clothing.
  3. Pick up only what the written request allows - the release is based on the inmate’s written request, so make sure the authorization is in place before you go.

Don't wait on commissary if your loved one is transferred. Any commissary items not picked up within 72 hours of the transfer will be disposed of.

Personal property has a longer window - but there's still a deadline. Anything not picked up within 30 days of the inmate's transfer or release will be disposed of.

Plan ahead if you need to pick up items from Property & Evidence. The Gila County Sheriff's Office releases these items by appointment only - you can't just walk in and expect same-day service.

Warning: No valid driver's license or ID, no release. You must bring proper identification or your request won't be fulfilled.
