How to add, remove, or cancel visitors for a scheduled visit (Georgia DOC process)
Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) visits are scheduled through the Georgia DOC online visitation form. Double-check that your facility uses this same system before following the steps below - some facilities handle things differently, so ask staff if you're unsure.
- Open the “Add Visitor” option - This is the tool GDC provides for adding people to a visit that’s already on the calendar.
- Find your scheduled visitation - Use the “Add Visitor” link to look up the visit you already scheduled.
- Add the additional visitor(s) - Enter the new visitor’s information and submit the update so they’re attached to that scheduled visit.
- Double-check the ID type you select - The system only allows Driver’s License or State ID as an identification option if the visitor is 18 or older.
Note: Driver’s License and State ID options are limited to visitors who are 18 or older. If you’re adding a minor, don’t expect those ID types to work for them in the request.
Can't make your scheduled visit? Use the
- ✓ The incarcerated person’s (offender’s) GDC ID
- ✓ The name of the person who scheduled the visit
- ✓ The date/time of the visit you’re trying to cancel
- ✓ The email address used for the request (if you have it handy)
Deadlines matter. For weekend visits, you must submit your request by 5:00 PM on Wednesday of the same week. For state holidays, the cutoff is 5:00 PM three days before. If you're adding visitors or rescheduling around these dates, work backward from these deadlines so you don't miss your window.
Reminder: Weekend requests have a Wednesday 5:00 PM cutoff, and state-holiday requests cut off at 5:00 PM three days before the holiday - plan changes early.
Practical Tips
- ✓ The incarcerated person’s (offender’s) GDC ID
- ✓ Full legal names for everyone on the visit
- ✓ Dates of birth for each visitor
- ✓ The ID type you’ll select for each visitor (remember: Driver’s License/State ID selections are for visitors 18+)
- ✓ The email address and phone number you want tied to the request
If the online process doesn't match what staff are telling you, pause and confirm the correct steps with the facility directly. These instructions are based on the Georgia DOC online visitation form process.
