How Often Can You Visit? Understanding Custody Levels and Visit Frequency at Glossbrenner Unit
Visit frequency at Glossbrenner Unit isn't one-size-fits-all. How often you can see your loved one in person depends on their custody classification—and sometimes their SAT level. Knowing their category before you plan a trip can save you a wasted drive.
At Glossbrenner Unit, contact-visit frequency depends on custody level (and for some classifications, SAT level too). If your loved one is classified as G1, J1, or J2, they can have one contact visit per week. Other classifications can also qualify for weekly visits, but SAT level matters. Inmates classified as G2, G3, P2, P3, P6, or P7 with SAT 3 get one contact visit per week. If the classification is G2, G3, P2, P3, P6, or P7 with SAT level 4 or higher, the frequency drops: three contact visits per month instead of weekly. That's a real difference - confirm your loved one's classification before you travel.
Note: Custody classification (and sometimes SAT level) is what determines contact-visit eligibility and how often visits can happen. If the classification changes, the visit frequency can change with it.
If getting to the unit regularly is tough, remote video visits offer another way to stay connected. You'll need to schedule these through the vendor website. Before booking, create your own Online Visitation Scheduler account. TDCJ staff can't set one up for you, so handle this ahead of time.
Remote video visits have limits. Through the vendor, you can schedule one per month for up to 60 minutes. These visits are meant to supplement contact or general visits - not replace them - so they're useful for filling gaps when in-person visiting is limited by custody level or distance.
- Confirm they’re assigned to Glossbrenner Unit - Before you plan anything, make sure your loved one is actually housed at the Glossbrenner Unit.
- Check visitation privileges and classification - Use the TDCJ Offender Search (the inmate information is updated regularly) and/or contact the unit to confirm custody classification and whether they currently have visitation privileges.
- Call the unit before you travel - Even if everything looked fine online, call for final confirmation and verify the unit visitation schedule and that visitation hasn’t been canceled for that day.
