Which Days Can You Visit Green Haven? Wednesday, Weekend Rotation, and Arrival Cutoff

Green Haven's regular visiting days are Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Planning a trip? Pick one of those three - other weekdays aren't part of the standard schedule.

Visiting hours run from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM on all open days. Plan your travel around that window.

Visits run until 2:30 PM, but the latest you can arrive is 1:30 PM. Show up after that and you'll be turned away.

Green Haven limits visits to one per day and two per week. Each visit allows up to three visitors, plus one child age five or under - young children must sit on an adult's lap.

Green Haven is one of the New York facilities that offers Wednesday visits alongside the weekend days. That midweek option helps if weekends don't work for your family, or if you're trying to space visits out while staying within the weekly limit.

Note: Visit processing is paused for the facility count at about 10:30 AM and resumes once the count clears. Build that pause into your timing, especially if you’re arriving late morning.

Weekend visits don't work the same every Saturday and Sunday. Green Haven rotates by last name - A–L one weekend, M–Z the next. You can only visit on the weekends assigned to your group.

To find out if this weekend is your turn, check the rotation schedule posted with Green Haven's visitation information (also available through DOCCS visitation info). Don't make the drive on an off weekend for your last-name group.

  • Match your last name to the correct group (A–L or M–Z).
  • Confirm which group is scheduled for the weekend you want to visit using the attached rotation schedule.
  • Plan your arrival so you’re there by 1:30 PM at the latest - after that cutoff, new visits won’t be accepted.

The most common timing mistake? Assuming you can arrive anytime before 2:30 PM because that's when visiting hours end. At Green Haven, 1:30 PM is the cutoff. Arrive after that and staff won't start a new visit.

  1. Aim to arrive well before 1:30 PM - treat 1:30 PM as a hard cutoff, not a target.
  2. Avoid the mid-morning bottleneck - visit processing pauses for the facility count at about 10:30 AM and starts back up once the count clears.
  3. Leave extra buffer time - that pause (plus normal processing) can push your check-in later than you expect, especially on busy days.

Before you head out, double-check the current weekend rotation for A–L and M–Z groups. Green Haven posts the schedule with its visitation information, and DOCCS has it too. A quick check can save you a wasted trip.

  • Confirm Green Haven is visiting on the day you’re going (Wednesday, Saturday, or Sunday).
  • Check the attached weekend rotation schedule to make sure your last-name group (A–L or M–Z) is up for that weekend.
  • Look for any temporary schedule changes before you travel.
