What to Wear to Visit Someone at Green River Correctional Complex (Dress Code Checklist)

Dress modestly for visits at Green River Correctional Complex. Your shirt should cover your shoulders, cleavage, and midriff - nothing see-through, revealing, or excessively tight. Wear appropriate undergarments (and make sure they're not visible). You'll also need shoes; bare feet aren't allowed.

Prohibited Items

  • Shorts, dresses, or skirts that are more than 2 inches above the knee when standing
  • Tank tops, halter tops, tube tops, or any sleeveless shirts
  • Spandex, leggings, or yoga pants as the outermost garment (they’re only allowed under a skirt, dress, or pants that meet the length requirements)
  • Clothing with obscene language, images, or symbols; gang-related insignia; or anything offensive, derogatory, or disruptive
  • Head coverings of any type (hats, caps, bandanas, scarves, or hoods); religious head coverings are allowed but may be searched

Staff at Green River have the final say on whether your outfit passes. Even if you think you've followed every rule, they can turn you away if they decide your clothing doesn't comply. Dress more conservatively than you think necessary - especially for your first visit.

Show up in something that breaks the rules? You might get a chance to fix it - changing clothes or covering up. If you can't make it work, you'll be turned away.

Practical Checklist

  • A modest shirt that fully covers your shoulders, cleavage, and midriff
  • Bottoms that meet the “no more than 2 inches above the knee when standing” rule (if you’re wearing shorts, a dress, or a skirt)
  • If you plan to wear leggings/yoga pants/spandex, a skirt, dress, or pants to wear over them (leggings can’t be the outermost garment)
  • Proper undergarments that won’t be visible
  • Shoes you can comfortably keep on the whole time (footwear is required; no bare feet)

Quick tip: Bring a backup. A simple cover-up or change of clothes means you can fix an outfit issue on the spot instead of losing your visit.
