How to Contact an Inmate at Facility

Staying in touch usually comes down to two things: setting up in-person visits and making sure your loved one has funds in their account. Here are the facility-specific ways to do both.

To add money to an inmate's account in person, head to the Public Lobby Kiosk. You'll find one at the Women's Correctional Center, the Western Massachusetts Regional Women's Correctional Center (WMCAC), or the Main Facility in Ludlow.

The Public Lobby Kiosk accepts U.S. currency in these denominations only: $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100.

You can also deposit funds remotely through Access Secure Deposits. Call the toll-free number 1-866-345-1884 or go online at inmatedeposits.com.

At the Hampden County Correctional Center (Main Institution) in Ludlow, each inmate can receive up to two in-person visits per week. All visits are non-contact. Visiting days are grouped by last name: A–O visit Monday through Saturday, and P–Z visit Sunday through Friday. Multiple one-hour appointment slots are available each day.

All in-person visits at the Ludlow Main Institution must be scheduled by phone. Call (413) 858-0195 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. You can book up to one week in advance, and same-day appointments are only available if an open slot exists.

The Main Institution Public Lobby handles in-person deposits and pickups on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Processing hours are 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Steps to Follow

  • Plan around the limit of up to 2 in-person visits per week per inmate at the Ludlow Main Institution.
  • Expect visits to be non-contact.
  • Use the last-name schedule: A–O visit Monday–Saturday, and P–Z visit Sunday–Friday, with one-hour appointment slots.
  1. Call to schedule: Dial (413) 858-0195.
  2. Call during the scheduling window: You can schedule up to one week in advance, and the phone line is staffed 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  3. Ask about same-day openings if you need one: Same-day appointments are allowed only if a time is available.
  • Use the Public Lobby Kiosk at the Women’s Correctional Center, WMCAC, or the Main Facility in Ludlow.
  • Bring cash in accepted denominations only: $5, $10, $20, $50, or $100.
  • If you are going to the Main Institution Public Lobby for deposit and pickup processing, go on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday between 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m.–2:30 p.m.
  • Deposit remotely through Access Secure Deposits by calling 1-866-345-1884 or using inmatedeposits.com.

Verify before you go: Call to confirm the visit scheduling phone hours (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.), whether any same-day slots are still open, and the Main Institution lobby processing hours (Mon/Wed/Fri, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.).

Verify deposit details: Confirm what payment types are accepted where you plan to deposit. The kiosk takes $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 bills. Check any deposit limits or processing rules with the facility or Access Secure Deposits.

Verify visit rules: Confirm the two-visits-per-week limit, the last-name day grouping (A–O vs. P–Z), and that visits are non-contact. This is especially worth double-checking around holidays or during temporary facility changes.
