Non-Contact Visits at Hampden County: What to Expect in the Visiting Room
Non-contact visits might feel unfamiliar your first time, but they're easy to navigate once you know the basics. Here's what to expect at Hampden County's Main Institution and the Western Massachusetts Women's Correctional Center (WCC), so you can focus on the time you have together.
All in-person visits at Hampden County are non-contact - both at the Hampden County Correctional Center (Main Institution) and WCC. At WCC, the policy is explicit: no physical contact at any time during a personal visit. Expect a visit through a non-contact setup, not across a shared table.
At the Main Institution, you'll be assigned a booth when you arrive. Stay put. If you need to change booths for some reason, you can ask, but approval is up to the Visiting Officer. The easiest approach? Settle into your assigned spot and plan to stay there for the full visit.
One more rule at the Main Institution: your visiting group is locked in once the visit starts. No swapping visitors mid-visit. Make sure everyone who wants to see your loved one arrives together and is ready to stay the whole time.
Staff at WCC enforce the no-contact rule strictly. Any violation can result in formal discipline for the incarcerated person - and the visitor may be immediately banned from future visits. If you're unsure whether something counts as physical contact, err on the side of caution and follow staff direction.

- ✓ Follow staff instructions the first time; it helps your visit go smoothly.
For the Main Institution, you'll need to schedule visits by phone through the Central Control Room/Public Lobby.
