What to Wear for a Video Visit at Hancock County Justice Center (and Why It Matters)

Hancock County Justice Center enforces a dress code for video visits, and the baseline rule is simple: wear undergarments. This applies every time you log on or come in. If you're wondering whether something might be "too revealing," swap it for something more covered. Better safe than denied.

Note: If you don’t meet the dress code, the Hancock County Justice Center can deny your video visit or end it early.

For men, the non-negotiable is straightforward: wear undergarments under your clothing during the video visit. Whatever you choose - shirt, pants, shorts - undergarments are required underneath.

  • Wear shorts that are no shorter than mid-thigh
  • Avoid shorts that are provocative or extremely tight
  • Make sure shorts do not expose upper thighs, genitalia, or buttocks

For women, the same rule applies: undergarments are required. Beyond that, the facility is strict about tops and hemlines that are see-through, overly revealing, or have cutouts that expose skin.

  • Do not wear see-through/transparent clothing
  • Skip low-cut and/or revealing tops
  • Do not wear halter tops or tube tops
  • Avoid tank top blouses or dresses with thin spaghetti straps
  • Do not wear tops with cutouts
  • If you wear shorts, they must be no shorter than mid-thigh and cannot be provocative, extremely tight, or expose upper thighs, genitalia, or buttocks
  • Do not wear dresses or skirts with slits higher than two inches above the knee

Watch out: Very tight shorts or a dress with a high slit are common reasons video visits get stopped before they even start.

Show up or log in out of dress code, and the facility can deny your visit - or cut it short mid-session. Think of your clothing as part of your visit checklist, right alongside your ID and internet connection. Hancock County Justice Center puts the responsibility on you to follow their video visitation policy.

  1. Start with undergarments - Make sure you’re wearing them before you do anything else.
  2. Choose a non-revealing top - Avoid see-through/transparent fabric, low-cut or revealing styles, and (for women) halter, tube, thin spaghetti straps, or cutouts.
  3. Check your hemline - Shorts need to be at least mid-thigh and not provocative or extremely tight.
  4. If you wear a dress or skirt, check the slit - It can’t be higher than two inches above the knee.

Reminder: Video visits at the Hancock County Justice Center are monitored and may be recorded, and you’re not allowed to use extra cameras or recording devices to capture the visit on-site or off-site.
