What Happens During Intake at Harrison County Adult Detention Center
Intake—also called booking—is what happens right after arrest. Your loved one will be searched, identified, and given basic jail-issued items before moving to a housing unit. Here's what Harrison County Adult Detention Center's handbook says to expect.
Anyone processed into general population at Harrison County Adult Detention Center goes through a strip search during intake. The clothes they arrived in - what the handbook calls "free world" clothing - are confiscated. They won't have access to those items while housed at the facility.
After the search and clothing removal, your loved one can shower and receive issued items before being assigned to a housing unit. Once they leave the booking area, they'll get the standard basics for daily life: bedding, clothing, and simple hygiene items.
Note: The inmate handbook outlines this sequence as: search and confiscation, shower and issued items, then transfer from booking to a housing unit.
Cash is handled separately from other belongings. During intake, all currency is confiscated and a receipt is issued. The money goes into your loved one's jail account - it doesn't stay in their pocket or property bag.
Tip: Because a receipt is issued for confiscated currency, your loved one should have a record that the amount was logged and placed in their account.
Intake includes formal identification steps: a photograph, fingerprints, and a retina scan. These records confirm identity and stay linked to your loved one throughout their time at the facility.
Required: Harrison County Adult Detention Center requires inmates to wear their identification wristband on their wrist at all times.
Issued Items Hygiene Schedule

- ✓ Mattress
- ✓ Blanket
- ✓ Two sheets
- ✓ Two jail uniforms
- ✓ Slide shoes
- ✓ Bath towel

The handbook also notes a weekly hygiene pass for basics like toilet paper, soap, toothpaste, and a toothbrush. If your loved one is worried about running out, this is one of the regular ways the facility distributes those essentials.
Housing and supervision can feel strict at first, even if the case is brand new. Until the Initial Classification Hearing Officer makes an assignment, everyone is treated as either "C" custody (close supervision) or "D" custody (maximum confinement).
