Some items come with extra conditions. Watches can only go if they're valued at $50 or less. Necklaces are allowed only when they're religious. Wedding rings have gender-specific rules: males may transport a wedding band, while females may transport a wedding set.
Note: Medication can be transported, but it must be turned over to MDOC staff during the transfer.
- Send money with the understanding it won’t stay as cash - money may go with the offender during transport.
- Expect it to be receipted into the account - it’s placed into the inmate account rather than kept as currency.
Medication is handled differently than regular property. Harrison County’s MDOC transfer list allows medication to go with the offender, but it’s not meant to remain in their possession - during the transfer, it’s turned over to MDOC staff.
If MDOC (or another agency picking up your loved one) won't accept an item, Harrison County holds it for only 30 days. After that, anything left behind gets destroyed - no exceptions. Arrange pickup quickly if you're told something didn't transfer.
