Who Can Visit With You: Visitor Limits at OCCC and Halawa
Visitor limits are strict at both facilities, and the rules for who counts aren't the same. Check the caps below before you schedule or travel.
OCCC allows up to two visitors at a time per inmate - children included in that count. Halawa (HCF) works differently: one adult and one child maximum per visit.
Key difference: OCCC allows up to two visitors total (adults and kids count the same toward the limit). Halawa limits visits to one adult plus one child.
These caps shape what a family visit can actually look like. One adult and one child? That works at both facilities. Two adults together - say, two grandparents or a parent and an adult sibling - fits OCCC's two-person cap but breaks Halawa's one-adult rule. Hoping to bring one adult with two kids? Neither facility allows it: you'd exceed OCCC's two-person limit and Halawa's one-child limit. There's also frequency to consider at OCCC: inmates get one visit per week. Even if you rotate who goes, you can't schedule multiple groups in the same week to accommodate a larger family.
- ✓ For OCCC, plan for no more than two visitors total per visit (children count toward the two).
- ✓ For OCCC, remember it’s one visit per inmate per week - if multiple people want time, you’ll need to rotate across different weeks.
- ✓ For Halawa (HCF), choose your pair ahead of time: one adult + one child is the maximum per visit.
OCCC planning tip: One visit per inmate per week means a swap-out visit later that week usually isn't possible.
- Confirm who’s eligible to visit - At Halawa (HCF), every visitor must be on the inmate’s approved visitor list.
- Decide on a rotation plan - If more than the allowed number of people want to visit, set an order and rotate visitors across future visits. Keep in mind OCCC allows only one visit per inmate per week, so your rotation will move week by week.
- Lock in the final lineup before you go - Last-minute changes can create problems, especially at Halawa where visitors must be pre-approved.
Halawa (HCF): Everyone must be on the inmate's approved visitor list - don't assume you can substitute someone at the door.
