Haysi Regional Jail uses Smart Communications (SmartInmate) for phone calls, remote video visits, and electronic messaging. To use any of these services, you'll need to create a prepaid Smart Communications account through SmartInmate—sign-up is free, but most features require prepaid funds. Remote video visits cost $0.33 per minute, charged when the video connection starts. Smart Communications offers both prepaid and debit telephone account options. Prepaid account holders can leave an inmate a voicemail for $1.00 by calling 863-400-5993 (you'll need the inmate's ID). Attorneys must register an account, select "private attorney" or "public defender," and submit photos of their driver's license and bar card before requesting private connections.

Since January 1, 2021, personal mail for people at Haysi Regional Jail goes through Smart Communications — not directly to the jail. Get the address format wrong, and your letter comes right back.

Video visits at Haysi Regional Jail require advance planning. You'll need to schedule at least 24 hours ahead, and you can book up to 14 days in advance. Keep that window in mind before you start searching for available times.
Haysi Regional Jail offers remote video visitation seven days a week. Visits run in three daily windows: 7:30 a.m.–10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m.–4:30 p.m., and 8:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m. Each session lasts 15 minutes, so be ready to connect right when your time slot starts. You'll need to book at least 24 hours ahead, and you can schedule up to two weeks in advance.
