Henderson County Detention Property Rules & What Inmates Are Allowed to Keep
Thinking of dropping off clothes, shoes, or other personal items? Here's the key rule at Henderson County Detention Center: outside property isn't accepted. Below you'll find what your loved one gets at intake, what they can keep, and what happens to anything considered
Henderson County Detention Center does not accept property from outside sources. That means you generally can’t bring in personal items for an inmate to use while they’re housed there - anything they’re allowed to have must be purchased through the commissary.
At intake, the facility issues each inmate an initial set of basics, starting with 1 inmate uniform. This is what they’ll wear inside the jail rather than personal clothing.
They’re also issued standard bedding and linens: 1 mattress, 2 sheets, 1 blanket, and 1 body towel. These items are part of the initial issue provided by the facility.
- ✓ 1 toothbrush
- ✓ 1 small bar of soap
- ✓ 1 small tube of toothpaste
For personal property, Henderson County Detention Center keeps the approved list tight. Inmates may have one Bible, one watch (with a value no greater than $50), and personal hygiene items that are institutionally approved.
Photos are allowed, but there’s a strict limit: an inmate may have up to five photos in their possession. If they have more than five, the extras must be mailed home.
- Watch for an “excess” notice - if the facility labels property as excess, the inmate is notified.
- Act within 30 days - once notified, the inmate has 30 days to get the excess property removed.
- Choose one removal option - the property can be mailed out (at the inmate’s expense), picked up, or donated to a local charity.
Note: Legal material is permitted only through the mail. No legal material will be accepted through the bonding window.
