Important: Medical record requests go to the medical records custodian. Everything else goes to the general public records custodian. Use the email, phone, or address listed for the appropriate contact.

Kentucky's open records law includes a residency requirement. As of June 29, 2021, only Kentucky residents can request to inspect public records under KRS 61.872(3).

Once the detention center receives your request, they have five business days to respond. Weekends and legal holidays don't count toward that timeline.

If you just need to look at records without getting copies, you can schedule a free in-person review. The records custodian or another detention center employee will be present during your appointment.

  1. Request electronic delivery when it makes sense - Records transmitted electronically are provided at no charge.
  2. Watch the file-size limit - If the responsive material is more than 4 MB, the documents will automatically be produced on CD and mailed to you.
  3. Plan for possible costs when a CD is required - When records are produced and mailed, associated fees and postage can apply.

Planning to drop off your request in person or call with questions? The facility's public business hours are Monday through Friday, 0800–1500, excluding holidays. Outside those hours, submit your written request through one of the accepted methods.
