What Actually Happens During Check-In at Hill Correctional Center
Nervous about your first visit? The check-in process is usually what feels most uncertain. Here's what Hill Correctional Center expects when you arrive, what staff will verify, and what you need to do before entering the visiting area.
Arrive at Hill Correctional Center at least 10 minutes before your scheduled visit time. That buffer matters - check-in isn't one quick stop. You may need time for identity verification and other entry requirements before you're cleared to go in.
At check-in, staff confirm you're approved to visit. You'll need to be on the incarcerated person's approved visitation list. First-time adult visitors also need a Prospective Visitor's Interview (PVI) form on file - unless you've already been approved through the electronic PVI process.
Hill Correctional Center screens all visitors for COVID-19 before entry. Expect symptom questions and a temperature check.
ID Vehicle Pvi
- ✓ Two forms of identification (if you’re 18+)
- ✓ One current, state-issued photo ID (as one of the two IDs)
- ✓ Photo ID that verifies your date of birth
You may be asked to provide vehicle information at check-in. Any vehicle brought onto State property is subject to search, so keep your car simple and visit-ready.
Approval is non-negotiable at Hill. If you're not on the approved visitation list, you won't get in (government officials and legal visitors are the exception). First-time adult visitors need the PVI requirement satisfied - either by completing the form beforehand or through prior electronic PVI approval.
Security screening is standard. At Hill Correctional Center, all persons, vehicles, and items brought onto State property are subject to search.
Not allowed in the Visiting Room: Electronic devices (cell phones, tablets, smart watches), food, drink, smoking materials, currency, packages, purses/bags, books, magazines, sunglasses, and personal keys.
- Find the small lockers in the Visiting Center - Lockers are available at no charge for visitors to store personal items.
- Lock up anything that can’t go into the Visiting Room - This includes things like electronic devices, food or drink, smoking materials, currency, purses/bags, books or magazines, sunglasses, and personal keys.
- Keep the locker key with you - You can carry the locker key into the facility after you accept personal responsibility for the items you stored.
