How to Set Up a TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler Account (so you don’t have to call Hilltop Unit)

Want to schedule a visit at Hilltop Unit through TDCJ's online system? You'll need to create your own scheduler account first. The process is simple, but a couple of small details (like phone number formatting) can trip you up if you're not prepared.

You must create your own TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler account before you can schedule any visits. TDCJ staff can't create visitor accounts for you. They can only help with updates (like correcting information) after your account already exists. The fastest path to getting a visit on the calendar: get your account created and verified first, then handle scheduling from there.

  1. Start the account registration: Choose the option to create an account and enter a valid email address, then submit it.
  2. Watch for the registration email: The system sends an email that includes a 7-digit validation code and a link to complete registration.
  3. Finish verification: Use the link or enter the 7-digit code when prompted to complete the registration step.

Tip: If you do not see the email with the 7-digit validation code and registration link, check your spam or junk folder before you try again.

During account setup, you'll hit the Background Questionnaire. Answer every question. Leave anything blank and you won't be able to move forward. Your account setup will stall until it's complete.

When filling out your visitor profile, pay close attention to the phone number field. It must be entered in this exact format: XXX XXX XXXX (spaces, no dashes). For example, type 214 555 1234, not 214-555-1234.

Step4 Add Inmate

  • ✓ Get the inmate’s TDCJ or SID number.
  • ✓ Enter the number as exactly 8 digits when you add the inmate to your profile.
  • ✓ If you do not know the 8-digit number, use the TDCJ Offender Search to look it up.

If the validation email doesn't show up right away, check your inbox carefully, then check spam or junk folders. Same goes for password reset emails. Already created an account but forgot your password? Use the Forgot Password/Reset Password option. Enter your email address and submit. The system will email you steps to reset your password.

The TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler only works for residents of the United States, Canada, and Mexico. If you live outside those countries, you'll need to make other arrangements to schedule a visit.
