What to Do When Your Visitor Relationship Request Is Stuck in 'Pending' at Hilltop Unit

If your visitor relationship request for someone at Hilltop Unit is stuck in "Pending," the scheduler is usually waiting on unit staff to verify the relationship. Here's how the request moves through the system, where to check status, and what you can do next.

Your relationship request is officially submitted in the TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler when you select your relationship, click "Request Approval," and confirm the prompt. Once you click OK, the request goes to the inmate's unit of assignment for staff verification. At Hilltop Unit, staff there must confirm the visitor-inmate relationship before the scheduler treats you as approved.

One thing that trips people up early: you must create your own scheduler account. Unit staff cannot create one for you. They can help update your information (names, addresses) after your account exists, but getting your profile set up is the first step before the unit can do anything meaningful on their end.

To check whether you're still waiting on approval, go to your scheduler home page and look for "Relation Requests Pending Approval." Your request stays there until TDCJ staff approve it. If you see it listed, verification hasn't been completed yet.

Note: If your Relationship Request is still pending, you cannot use it to schedule a visit yet.

  • Go back and make sure every question in the Background Questionnaire is answered. The scheduler will not let you move forward in account creation with unanswered items.
  • Double-check the inmate’s TDCJ or SID number in your profile. It must be exactly 8 digits.
  • If you’re not sure you have the right 8-digit number, use the TDCJ Offender Search tool to confirm it, then re-enter it exactly as shown.

Sometimes the scheduler won't give you a normal scheduling option even after you've done everything online. If the Schedule Visit button is blank or shows "Call Unit," you need the inmate's unit involved. First, check whether your relationship is still listed under "Relation Requests Pending Approval." A pending request can't be used to schedule visits. If it's still pending, contact the unit to confirm they received the request and ask if anything is holding up verification.

  1. Ask if the unit received your Relationship Request: Relationship Requests are sent to the inmate’s unit of assignment for staff verification.
  2. Ask what they need to verify the relationship: If something is missing or doesn’t match, find out what information they want corrected on your end.
  3. Ask when the approval should show up in the scheduler: Once it’s approved, it will no longer be in “Relation Requests Pending Approval,” so you’ll know what to watch for when you log back in.

If your account details are complete and the request still isn't moving, contact the inmate's unit directly. Relationship requests go to the unit for verification, and you'll see yours sitting in "Relation Requests Pending Approval" on your scheduler home page until staff approve it. For Hilltop Unit, use the official TDCJ unit phone list to find the correct number. Call and ask about your relationship request status and any next steps they need from you.
