The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office Evidence/Property Division is located at the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters: 8105 Township Road 574, Holmesville, Ohio 44633. The headquarters is off State Route 83, so that’s a helpful landmark when you’re planning your drive.

The Evidence/Property Division is open 8:00am–4:00pm, Monday through Thursday. Even during business hours, you’ll need an appointment before you show up - plan your call or email first so you’re not making a wasted trip.

You can’t walk in and pick up evidence or property on the spot. The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office requires you to schedule an appointment with the Evidence/Property Division before picking up evidence, so set that up first and get a confirmed time to come in.

Reminder: Appointments require 24 hours’ notice, so don’t wait until the day you want to pick up your items.

Even if the item belongs to you, it may not be releasable until the right approval is in place. Evidence/property may be released only with approval from the collecting officer/detective, the prosecuting attorney, or by court order. If you’re being told a written release is needed, that usually means the division has to confirm the item is cleared to return before it can be handed over.

Note: No evidence or property will be released if releasing it is prohibited by Ohio or Federal law.

If you’re trying to claim found property, timing matters. Found property is held for 90 days from the date it was received; after 90 days, it will be disposed of or auctioned pursuant to Ohio law.

Safekeeping property has its own rules. Any safekeeping property received from an officer will be held for 90 days, and it requires a written release from an officer or the courts before it can be returned. If it isn’t claimed within 90 days, it will be destroyed or auctioned pursuant to Ohio law.
