Troubleshooting the Hunt County Portal: Cookies, Supported Browsers, and Access Levels
Portal won't load? Stuck in a login loop? Getting a "browser not supported" message? The fix is usually simple: enable cookies and use a current browser version. Once you're past that, knowing which access level you need will save you time.
That "allow cookies" message isn't just a pop-up - it's a hard requirement. The portal uses cookies to track your session, including whether you're signed in. Block them, and the site won't work properly. The portal's own message will point you to your browser's help documentation for steps to enable cookies.
The portal supports the current and previous major releases of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari. When a new major version drops, the third-oldest version loses support. This rolling policy explains why a browser that worked fine last year might suddenly trigger a "no longer supports" warning.
Tip: If you’re getting errors or a “browser no longer supports” warning, switch to a supported browser/version (current or previous major release). The portal’s support list changes as new versions are released.
Once you're in, the next question is what you can actually see. The portal has three access levels, and the right one depends on what you need: searching public court records, making payments, or accessing attorney-only tools.
Level I is SMART SEARCH - the simplest option. It's designed for the general public. You can search court records anonymously without registering.
Level II is REGISTER. Also for the general public, but geared toward people who want to use the Payment Portal. After registering, you'll see a "Request Access" option - useful if you qualify for Level III now or might later.
Level III is the ATTORNEY ROLE. This restricted access is for licensed attorneys only and includes E-Discovery on criminal cases plus access to documents on file with the Hunt County Clerk.
Quick Troubleshooting
- ✓ Allow cookies in your browser (the portal won’t work if cookies are blocked).
- ✓ Try a supported browser/version: the portal supports the current and previous major releases of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari, and older versions may stop working as new versions are released.
Note: Some troubleshooting guides suggest clearing your cache, but the Hunt County Portal’s own messages focus on cookies and supported browser versions.
Need more than Smart Search? Register for Level II to access the Payment Portal. You'll also see a "Request Access" option inside the portal if your situation changes. Level III is different - it's restricted to licensed attorneys and includes E-Discovery and document access through the Hunt County Clerk. If you're not an attorney, Level I (Smart Search) and Level II (Register/Payment) are your options.
