Hutchins Unit Visiting Hours and Rules: When Visits Happen, How Long They Last, and Visit Types
Planning a visit at the Hutchins Unit is straightforward once you understand the TDCJ schedule, weekly visit limits, and available visit types. Here's what you need to know to plan your trip and avoid surprises.
Visits happen on Saturdays and Sundays, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. That's your window for scheduling - plan your travel around it.
Note: Call the unit before you travel to confirm the inmate’s assignment and make sure visitation hasn’t been canceled.
Eligible inmates get one visit per week. Planning multiple trips close together? The second visit won't be allowed if it falls in the same cycle.
Each visit lasts two hours, and the clock starts once both you and the inmate are present in the visitation area. Even if you arrive early, expect to wait through check-in and for the inmate to be brought out - build that into your day.
The TDCJ online scheduler lists several visit types. "Regular" is the standard option. "Contact" appears as a separate category. You may also see "Video/Tablet" - this is different from the Securus Video program.
Some units allow Extended or Special Visits, and you may see these as options in the scheduler. Availability depends on the unit's policies and the inmate's situation.
Note: Not every visit type shows up for every inmate or at every unit. The scheduler only offers options that apply - if you’re unsure what’s available, confirm during scheduling or by calling the unit.
