You need to register ahead of time to visit Illinois River Correctional Center. The facility uses a SignupGenius scheduling link, and your visit should be reserved through that system before you arrive.

  1. Open the Illinois River Correctional Center SignupGenius page: Use the facility’s SignupGenius scheduling link.
  2. Choose an available date and time: Pick a slot that is still open for the visit you want.
  3. Complete the reservation: Follow the prompts to confirm your signup so your slot is saved.

Your first visit requires a Prospective Visitor's Interview (PVI) form (DOC 0148). The one exception: if you already received prior approval through the electronic PVI process, you should be cleared before you show up.

Who needs the PVI: All adult visitors (18 and older) must complete the DOC 0148, except legal visitors and government officials.

  • If this is your first visit, plan to complete the Prospective Visitor’s Interview (PVI/DOC 0148), unless you already have prior approval through the electronic PVI process.
  • Every adult visitor (18+) should be prepared to complete the PVI.
  • Do not count on an exemption unless you are a legal visitor or a government official.

Adult visitors need to bring current photo identification that includes your date of birth. A driver's license, state ID, or passport all work.

Each visit is limited to one incarcerated individual. If you need to visit more than one person, you'll need prior written approval from the Chief Administrative Officer.

Quick pre-visit check: Make sure you have the PVI form (if it's your first visit), your current photo ID with date of birth, and confirmation that you're scheduled to visit only one incarcerated person (unless you have prior written approval).

Traveling a long distance? Call the facility before you leave. Lockdowns and other restrictions can cancel visits without much warning, and a quick phone call could save you the trip.

Searches at the door: All visitors, their vehicles, and their property are subject to search at the facility.

  • Cell phones and other electronic devices (including pagers)
  • Food or drinks
  • Smoking materials
  • Currency
  • Packages
  • Purses, bags, or sacks
  • Books or magazines
  • Sunglasses
  • Personal keys
  • Anything else you do not need for check-in (use a locker if one is available)

When you arrive, expect screening and a possible search of your person, vehicle, and property. Leave prohibited items behind: electronics, bags, reading materials, sunglasses, keys, and cash should not come into the visiting room. If the facility has small lockers available, use one to secure anything you can't take inside.
