Bringing Food to a Visit at JCCC: Rules for Incentive Food Visits
Food visits can be a meaningful way to spend time together, but the rules are strict. If your visit is approved as an incentive food visit at JCCC, you'll need to follow specific container limits and avoid certain foods. Staff will physically inspect everything before it goes inside.
Containers Limits
- ✓ Bring no more than four food containers for each authorized food visit.
Containers can't be larger than 9 x 9 x 4 inches - whether you're bringing home-cooked food or store-bought items. Measure your containers before you leave to avoid surprises at check-in.
Use clear plastic containers only. Opaque containers or glass won't be allowed. Staff need to see what's inside, so pack everything in see-through plastic.
Prohibited Items
- ✓ Whole cuts of meat (for example, pot roast)
- ✓ Whole birds (for example, turkey or chicken)
- ✓ Shellfish in the shell
Heads up: Staff will physically inspect food for contraband - cutting, stirring, piercing, or separating items. Don't expect your food to look picture-perfect after the search.
These rules only apply if your visit is actually approved as an incentive food visit. Confirm this ahead of time. If you received paperwork or written approval, bring it with you - showing up without it could mean getting turned away.
