How Phone Calls Work at Jefferson County Jail — Collect Calls, Time Limits, and Monitoring

At Jefferson County Jail, inmates cannot receive incoming phone calls. If you need to communicate by phone, the call has to be placed from inside the jail to you.

All inmate calls have a 15-minute limit. The line cuts off automatically, so cover the important stuff first. Save longer conversations for the next call.

Calls not going through? Blocking is often the culprit. Jefferson County Jail blocks numbers when there's evidence of three-way calling, fraud, non-payment, or harassment. Numbers can also get blocked automatically if the inmate exceeds weekly limits on call attempts, accepted calls, denied calls, or total talk time. These limits are posted in housing areas, so the person calling may need to pace themselves to avoid triggering an automatic block.
