Where to Send Mail to Someone at Jefferson County Jail (Personal Mail Goes to Tampa, Books to Golden)
Jefferson County Jail uses different mailing addresses depending on what you're sending. Personal letters and photos go through a Securus Digital Mail Center in Tampa, while books, publications, and legal mail go to a P.O. Box in Golden.
Since February 15, 2024, all personal mail for inmates at Jefferson County Jail must go to the Securus Digital Mail Center: PO Box 25938, Tampa, FL 33622. Include the inmate's name and ID number on the envelope.
Here's how it works: your letter, photos, or drawings arrive at the Tampa facility, get scanned, and then show up digitally on module kiosks and tablets for the inmate to view. Getting the address right - including the correct name and ID - matters. Mail that's addressed incorrectly can get delayed or returned.
- ✓ If you want your personal mail returned to you, include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with the original mail.
Books and publications don't go to Tampa. Jefferson County Jail accepts pre-approved legal, educational, or religious publications, plus new, unused non-fiction paperback books - but these must be mailed to P.O. Box 16700, Golden, CO 80402-6700. Include the inmate's full name and JCID number (if you have it) so the jail can match it correctly.
Labeling matters for legal mail. Mark the envelope clearly as "Legal Mail," and make sure the sender's address is typed or printed so staff can verify where it came from.
Legal mail gets inspected, but differently than regular correspondence. Staff will open and inspect it in the presence of the inmate it's addressed to.
Send legal mail to the same Golden address used for books and publications: the inmate's full name and JCID number (if known), P.O. Box 16700, Golden, CO 80402-6700.
Rejected Publications and Appeals
- ✓ Want an item returned? Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with the original mail.
- Watch for the rejection notice - if a publication is rejected, the sender will be notified.
- Send your appeal in writing within 15 days - your written notice needs to be received within fifteen (15) days after the jail mails the rejection notice. Send it to the Detention Facility Administrative Sergeant at 200 Jefferson County Parkway, Golden, CO 80401.
- Look for a written decision within 21 days - within twenty-one (21) days of receiving your appeal, the Sheriff or their designee will send a written determination that explains the basis for the decision and identifies the appeal’s decision maker (someone other than the person who originally refused delivery).
Note: Appeals of rejected publications are sent locally to the Detention Facility Administrative Sergeant at 200 Jefferson County Parkway, Golden, CO 80401.
