To post bond in person for someone at Jefferson County Jail, head to the Hall of Justice at 600 W. Jefferson Street, Louisville, KY 40202. This is where in-person bond payments are handled.

The Hall of Justice is in downtown Louisville. Plan accordingly: give yourself extra time for parking, have your documents and payment ready, and expect a courthouse-style setting. If you're unsure where to go once inside, ask staff to direct you to bond payments.

In-person bond payments are accepted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That means you can post bond late at night, on weekends, or whenever you need to.

Who and Docs

  • Appear in person to post bond
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Bring a government-issued photo ID

At the Hall of Justice, you can pay with cash, a certified check, some debit cards, or credit cards. Not every debit card will work, so bring a backup option if you can - especially if you're traveling far or posting bond after hours.

Service-charge reminder: Debit card payments have a service charge. MasterCard, American Express, and Discover are accepted.

Online or kiosk bond payments come with fees: $70 for every $1,000 of bond. Do the math before choosing this route. On higher bond amounts, those fees add up quickly.

In some cases, an inmate can self-bond using funds from their spending account. One requirement: they must be a Kentucky resident with a valid address already in the system.

Case type matters too. Self-bonding is only allowed for District Court cases - Circuit Court cases don't qualify.

Not eligible for self-bond: DUI cases, domestic-violence-related cases (EPO, DVO, Assault w/DV), or any outstanding booking fee balance will prevent self-bonding.

Questions about posting bond? Call the District Court Clerk's Office at (502) 595-4428 or (502) 595-3060. Have the person's name ready, and ask whether you should post in person or if self-bond or online/kiosk options apply to their situation.
