How to get on an inmate’s visitors list at Jester 3 (and how often it can be changed)

Each inmate at Jester 3 can have up to 10 people on their Visitors List. This is the official approved list used for visits during authorized hours - it includes your name, phone number, and physical address. With only 10 spots available, the inmate has to prioritize who makes the cut.

How often the list can change depends on custody type. For institutional inmates, names can only be added or removed once every six months. If the list is full and you're trying to get added, timing matters - your loved one may need to wait until their next change window opens.

State jail inmates, those in an Intermediate Sanction Facility (ISF), or participants in a Substance Abuse Felony Punishment (SAFP) program have shorter windows. They can add or remove names once every 60 days. If you were recently removed or couldn't be added right away, this is likely why you've been told to try again later.

1. Find the inmate in the online visitation scheduler - Use the scheduler’s search to pull up the person you want to visit.
2. Submit a relationship request - Choose your relationship from the dropdown menu and submit the request for approval.
3. Wait for unit verification - After you submit, the request is sent to the inmate’s unit of assignment, where TDCJ staff verifies the Visitor/Inmate relationship.
4. Schedule once verification is complete - Visits can only be scheduled after that relationship verification step is finished.

If the scheduler's "Schedule Visit" button is blank or shows "Call Unit" instead, you'll need to call the inmate's unit of assignment directly. This happens even after your relationship is verified - so don't assume you did something wrong if the online option isn't available.
