How to Send Mail to Someone at Johnson County Jail: Two-Address System & MailGuard Digital Delivery
Johnson County uses a two-address system for inmate mail. Regular personal letters go through MailGuard for digital delivery off-site, while certain items—like legal mail and publications—must be sent directly to the detention center.
Johnson County splits inmate mail into two tracks. Non-privileged mail - letters, postcards, and greeting cards sent through USPS - gets processed off-site through the MailGuard service. Your loved one receives it digitally on password-protected kiosks or tablets inside the facility.
The off-site MailGuard address isn't for everything. Pre-approved packages, newspapers, and magazines from friends or family go to the detention center's street address. Legal mail works differently too - it must be clearly marked, sent through USPS to the detention center, and come from the inmate's attorney of record.
For regular non-privileged mail (letters, postcards, greeting cards), use this address: Inmate's Name – Inmate's CFN C/O Smart Communications Johnson County Sheriff's Office P.O. Box 9176 Seminole, Florida 33775-9176
After USPS delivers your letter or card, it's scanned off-site and delivered digitally through MailGuard. Your loved one reads it on a password-protected kiosk or tablet. The service is free - no extra cost for digital delivery.
Tip: Set up a free MailGuard account if you want to view delivery status, get notifications when something is rejected, and download copies of processed mail.
Use the detention center street address for items that don't go through MailGuard. Pre-approved packages, newspapers, and magazines from friends or family should be addressed to: Your Name – Your CFN Johnson County Adult Detention Center 101 North Kansas Ave Olathe, KS 66061 Legal (privileged) mail also goes to the detention center, but with additional requirements: it must be clearly marked, mailed through the United States Postal Service, and addressed as: Inmate's Name – Inmate's CFN Johnson County Adult Detention Center 101 North Kansas Ave Olathe, KS 66061
Publications - books, newspapers, and magazines - need approval from the Programs supervisor or their designee. Even if you follow all the addressing rules, the facility can still deny items for safety or security reasons.
Sending reading material? Plan around the publisher-only rules. Books, newspapers, and magazines must come directly from the publisher via United States Postal Service and require approval from the Programs supervisor (or designee). Any inserts will be removed before delivery.
Note: Books, newspapers, and magazines can be denied if they’re found to threaten the safety or security of the facility.
