How to Visit Facility
If you're heading to the jail in person, chances are you need to add money to an inmate's account. Here's how deposits work at the lobby kiosk and online, so you don't waste a trip.
There are two ways to make an inmate deposit. You can use the kiosk in the lobby of either jail (cash or credit/debit card), or you can deposit online through jailatm.com. The online option is available 24/7, which is useful if you can't make it to the lobby during open hours.
Heads up: Lobby kiosk deposit hours are 7:00 am to 10:00 pm daily.
Before you walk up to the kiosk, make sure you have the inmate's six-digit Criminal File Number (CFN). You'll need it to complete the deposit. Don't have it? A staff member in the lobby can look it up for you.
Don't bring these to the desk: Staff will not accept cash, checks, or money orders for inmate account deposits.
The Johnson County Sheriff's Office uses Summit for commissary and banking services. When someone is booked, an inmate account is created automatically. Money deposited into that account can be used for commissary purchases, phone time, medical services, and other Detention Center programs.
Steps to Follow
- ✓ Get the inmate’s six-digit CFN before you start (you’ll need it for a kiosk deposit).
- ✓ Decide whether you’ll deposit at the lobby kiosk (cash or credit/debit) or use jailatm.com.
- ✓ If you’re going in person, go during lobby kiosk hours, 7:00 am to 10:00 pm daily.
- ✓ Do not try to hand cash, checks, or money orders to staff for deposit.
- ✓ If you need to deposit outside lobby hours, use jailatm.com (available 24/7).
Knowing where the money goes can help. Deposits land in the inmate account created at booking through Summit. From there, the inmate can spend those funds on commissary, phone time, medical services, or other detention programs.
- Go to the lobby - use the kiosk area in the lobby of either jail.
- Ask for the CFN - a staff member in the lobby can provide the inmate’s six-digit Criminal File Number.
- Complete the kiosk deposit - enter the CFN and follow the on-screen instructions to finish your transaction.
Before you head out, confirm the lobby kiosk hours (listed as 7:00 am to 10:00 pm daily) and that the kiosk is available at the specific jail lobby you plan to visit. Deposits can be made at either jail's lobby kiosk, but it's still smart to verify before you drive.
If you don't know the CFN, plan to ask for it in the lobby. A staff member can provide the inmate's six-digit CFN, and you'll need that number to complete a kiosk deposit.
Deposit rules and vendors can change, so double-check current options before sending money. Verify that staff still do not accept cash, checks, or money orders. Confirm jailatm.com is still available for online deposits, and that the facility is still using Summit for inmate commissary and banking services.
