When you arrive at Joliet Treatment Center, call the facility before heading in. Staff will let you know when it's safe to enter the Visiting Center - don't walk straight up to the door. Wait for their go-ahead.

Once cleared to come inside, you'll go through a COVID-19 symptom and temperature screening before anything else.

Officers at the Visitor Center will conduct a body search before you can enter. It's required, so give yourself extra time. Keep what you bring simple - it speeds things up.

Warning: If you’re intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you won’t be permitted entry.

Lockers and Facility Responsibility

  • Small lockers are available at each facility for visitors to store personal items.
  • There is no charge to use the lockers.
  • You’re responsible for any items you place in a locker.
  • The facility does not assume responsibility for stored items.

If you’re wearing a face covering, be prepared to briefly lower it for identification purposes. Staff may ask you to do this when you enter and again when you exit the facility.

Inside the visiting area, the Visiting Room Officer handles rule issues as they come up. For minor violations, you'll get one warning. Any further disruption gets reported. If a temporary restriction is issued - up to six months of suspended visiting privileges - both you and the person you're visiting will receive written notification.
