What You Can't Bring to Kankakee County Jail Visits (And Where to Leave It)
Show up with the wrong items and you could lose your visit before it starts. Here's what to leave behind at Kankakee County Jail—and where to put it.
No electronics allowed: Cell phones, pagers, cameras, and recording devices aren't permitted in the visitation area. Bring one anyway? You risk a visitation ban - the length is up to jail administration.
There's no phone check at the door. Leave electronics in your car or find another way to secure them before you arrive. Staff won't hold your devices for you - that's not an option.
Travel light. Purses, handbags, fanny packs, and large containers aren't allowed in the visitation area. If you show up with a bag, you'll have to go back and stow it before continuing.
No storage at the jail: Staff won't hold purses or similar items for you - no exceptions.
Visiting with a baby? Leave the diaper bag behind - it's not allowed. The only exception: parents or guardians may bring one (1) bottle for an infant.
Skip the snacks. No food or drinks are allowed in the visitation area - eat and hydrate before you arrive.
Everyone gets screened at entry. Anything you bring may be inspected - no exceptions.
Weapons are an automatic no. The Sheriff's Department Corrections Division can also turn visitors away if someone is disrupting jail operations. One detail people overlook: keep your keychain simple. Anything large that could be used as a weapon or tool isn't allowed.
