Kirkland's Vending Machine Rules: Which Cards You Can (and Can't) Bring

Starting July 1, 2024, vending machines in Kirkland Correctional Institution's visitation area only accept debit and credit cards. PayKeys no longer work. You can bring one eligible debit or credit card into your visit to use at the machines.

Kirkland's Vending Machine Rules: Which Cards You Can (and Can't) Bring

2

  • Accepted brands: Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express
  • Prepaid debit cards aren’t accepted and may not be brought into the institution
  • Cash App and Chime cards won’t work in the vending machine card readers
  • Only one debit/credit card may be brought in per visiting group (or per employee)
  • The card has to have your name printed on it, and that name must match your ID

Each card maxes out at seven vending machine transactions. After the seventh purchase, the card gets declined. Since only one card is allowed per visiting group, plan ahead. Decide who's bringing it, and coordinate purchases so you're not burning through transactions on small, separate buys.

Heads up: Seven transactions is the limit - after that, your card gets declined. Visiting with others? Combine purchases when possible so you don't run out mid-visit.

If you're charged but don't get your item (or the machine doesn't refund correctly), check the sticker on that machine for the vending contractor's phone number. That's your first call for refunds. No luck? Leave a message at 803-400-8941 or email scdcvending@gmail.com. Have the details from the machine's sticker ready, plus the date and time of the issue and the last four digits of your card. This helps them track the transaction faster.
