What You Can and Can't Bring Into Kirkland Correctional: A Visitor Checklist
Visits go smoother when you show up with only what's allowed. Use the checklist below to avoid a trip back to your car—or worse, a contraband violation.
Leave all wireless devices in your car. SCDC banned personal wireless communication devices on February 1, 2016 - and that includes more than just cell phones. Smartwatches, fitness trackers, anything that can communicate wirelessly? It stays in your vehicle.
All tobacco products stay behind. SCDC went tobacco-free on January 1, 2008. That means no tobacco products, no lighters, no tobacco-related items of any kind in Agency buildings or on Agency property. Keep everything in your personal vehicle before you step onto the grounds.
Contraband is taken seriously at Kirkland. Get caught bringing it in, and you can be arrested and banned from future visits. If you're unsure whether something's allowed, leave it out of your pockets and bag entirely.
Planning to use the vending machines? Bring a card. As of July 1, 2024, vending machines in visitation accept debit/credit cards only. PayKeys are no longer accepted.

- ✓ Mastercard

SCDC treats contraband as an arrestable offense. Anyone caught bringing it into Kirkland can be arrested and banned from visiting again. Do a quick pocket-and-bag check before you head in.

Bringing kids? Kirkland has specific ID rules. Children 10 and up need a government-issued photo ID. Children 9 and under need a certified long-form birth certificate. Gather those documents before you leave home - not in the parking lot.
- Pack the right child documents - Children 10+ need a government-issued photo ID; children 9 and under need a certified long-form birth certificate.

- Remove wireless devices before you arrive - Personal wireless communication devices (including smartwatches and fitness trackers) are prohibited.
- Skip prepaid debit cards - Prepaid debit cards are not accepted and may not be brought into the institution; if you want vending, bring an accepted debit/credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express).
