Before Your First Visit to CAFCC: What to Bring and What to Leave Behind

Adults 18 and older need a current, unexpired photo ID. CAFCC accepts driver's licenses, passports, military IDs, and other government-issued identification. Coming in on an approved special visit? Bring the exact ID tied to that approval - the Lobby Officer will check that it matches before letting you into the complex.

Kids can't visit alone. Anyone under 18 must come with a parent or guardian and stay under direct adult supervision the entire visit.

  • A notarized letter from the minor’s parent or legal guardian (if the minor is not accompanied by that parent/guardian)
  • The minor’s birth certificate (required along with the notarized letter to gain entry)

CAFCC enforces strict clothing-length rules. Dresses, skirts, jumpers, culottes, skorts, and pants must fall no more than 2 inches above the knee. When in doubt, pick something that clearly hits at or below that line - you don't want to get turned away at the door. Fabric matters too. Spandex skirts, spandex pants, and leggings are all prohibited. Skip anything that fits like leggings or stretches tightly against your body. Stick with regular pants or non-spandex bottoms that keep you comfortably within the knee-length rule.

  • Closed-toe/closed-heel style footwear is the safer choice: shoes can’t have heels higher than 2 inches, and sandals or shower shoes of any kind aren’t permitted
  • Leave sunglasses behind: no visitors may bring sunglasses into the facility, including attorneys

Note: Clothing and carry-in rules aren’t the same for everyone. Only attorneys may wear sports/suit jackets and carry a wallet inside the visiting area.

Walk in with as little as possible. Explosive devices, firearms, ammunition, alcoholic beverages, narcotics, illegal drugs, and anything that could compromise facility safety are all prohibited. Electronics aren't allowed either - leave your cell phone, pager, handheld games, and other electronic devices behind.

Accidentally brought something you shouldn't have? CAFCC has lockers in the main area for small items like purses, handbags, hats, sunglasses, and coins. Store them there before entering the visiting area.
