Managing Your Loved One’s 20-Person Visitor List at Larned
Managing a visitation list comes down to paperwork and timing. Once you understand the 20-person limit and how approvals work, planning visits gets a lot easier.
Each resident at Larned can have up to 20 people on their approved visitation list. This matters if your loved one wants to include a mix of family, friends, and support people. Once the list is full, no one else can be added unless the resident revises it.
- Have your loved one request the visitor registration form - the resident gets the visitor registration request form from their unit counselor.
- Watch for the form in the mail - the resident mails the request form to the people they want to add.
- Complete the registration and send it back - the prospective visitor fills out the form and mails it back to the facility so it can be reviewed for approval.
Want to visit more than one resident? Here's the key rule: you can only appear on multiple residents' visiting lists if you're an immediate family member of each person. If you're immediate family to one but not the other, you may have to choose which list you're on.

When your loved one transfers to another KDOC facility, their approved visitation list goes with them. It stays active unless the resident revises it or it's changed for administrative reasons.
Sometimes a regular visit isn't possible or doesn't fit the situation. Special visit requests at Larned must be started by the resident through their unit team using a Form-9. The best thing you can do as a visitor? Share your situation clearly with your loved one so they can describe it accurately in the request.
Note: Special visits may be authorized by the warden or designee for reasons like a single visit before background verification, a visitor traveling 150+ miles (one way), or a visit that supports rehabilitative needs or other correctional goals.
- Start the request through the unit team - the resident initiates the special visit request via their unit team using Form-9.
- Explain why the visit should be considered “special” - the request should clearly state the reason (for example, one visit before background verification, travel of 150 miles one way or more, or a rehabilitative/correctional goal).
- Wait for the decision from the warden or designee - special visits are authorized at that level, so approval (or denial) comes after review.
