Phone Calls, Tablet Messages, and Funds at Larned: Which Vendor to Use and How to Set Up Accounts

At Larned Correctional Facility, you'll deal with three separate systems. Phone calls go through ICS Corrections, Inc. (ICSolutions) - that's where you set up prepaid calling for your number. Tablet messaging runs through ViaPath (GettingOut), and you'll fund that account to send electronic messages, photos, and short video attachments to your loved one's tablet. Adding money to a resident's trust account is a separate process entirely - those deposits go through Access Corrections, not ViaPath. Video visits are handled by yet another vendor and aren't available through the ViaPath tablet.

ICS Corrections, Inc. handles phone calls at Larned. You can set up a prepaid account by calling ICSolutions customer service at 1-888-506-8407, or create one online at no cost through the ICSolutions website.

Calls to cell phones won't connect without a prepaid account in place first. One common snag: phone numbers aren't automatically ready to receive calls. Every new number a resident adds to their approved call list has to be verified and activated before they can dial it.

Tablet messages at Larned go through ViaPath's GettingOut system. Start by creating a GettingOut account on their website or mobile app, then add funds so you can message your loved one on their tablet. If you hit login, payment, or messaging issues, ViaPath support is available at 866-516-0115 - there's also a GettingOut "Contact Us" page. Still stuck? KDOC lists a facility assistance line at 785-746-7542 (leave a detailed message) and an email address: KDOC_Facility_Management@ks.gov.

Minimum to start: ViaPath requires a $10.00 minimum deposit on your GettingOut account before you can send messages, photos, or a 30-second video message to a resident’s tablet.

  • Electronic message: $0.25 per message
  • Electronic photo: $0.25 per photo
  • 30-second video attachment: $1.75 per video

Knowing what gets charged on your loved one's side helps too. When funds hit a resident's ViaPath account, they can use that balance to print messages and photos or access entertainment content. Printing costs $0.35 per page for emails and $1.00 per page for attachments or photos. Entertainment runs $0.04 per minute for standard content, $0.06 per minute for premium.

ViaPath tablet funds and trust-account money are two different things. You can't deposit to a resident's trust account through ViaPath - those go through Access Corrections.

Regular phone calls aren't private. Under KAR 44-2-102(c), resident calls - except those with attorneys - may be monitored and recorded. Keep that in mind before discussing anything sensitive.

If there's a verifiable emergency - a serious illness or death in the family - call the facility. During business hours, staff will transfer you to the resident counselor's office so you can relay the message directly.

After hours, weekends, and holidays work differently, but verified emergencies will still reach the resident as soon as possible.
