Setting Up Phone Calls with Someone at Larned: Why Your Cell Phone Won’t Work Without a Prepaid Account

Larned's phone system only allows outgoing calls. Residents can make collect or prepaid calls, but they can't receive incoming calls. So calling the facility and asking to speak with your loved one won't work. Cell phones create an extra hurdle: residents can't call a cell phone number unless you've set up a prepaid account with the phone provider first. If you're waiting for a call that never comes, this is often why - your number isn't funded or authorized yet.

Note: Want calls on your cell phone? You'll need to set up a prepaid account with the telephone provider first - otherwise the call won't connect.

  • Call ICSolutions customer service at 1-888-506-8407 to establish a prepaid account for resident calls
  • Or set up your prepaid account online at www.icsolutions.com (accounts can be created online at no cost)
  • Add funds to the prepaid account so calls can connect to your number

Even after your account is funded, there's one more step that can delay that first call. Every new phone number a resident wants to call must be verified and activated on their approved call list. So if you've added money to your account but still aren't hearing from your loved one, check whether your number has been verified. Until that's complete, calls to your number won't go through.

Phone calls from residents aren't private the way you might expect. All calls - except those to attorneys - may be monitored and recorded per KAR 44-2-102(c). Keep that in mind before sharing sensitive information, and save any legal strategy discussions for protected attorney calls.

  • Don’t use chain dialing
  • Don’t attempt three-way calling
  • Don’t use call forwarding
  • Don’t dial extra digits during the call

In a verifiable emergency - like a serious illness or death in the family - you can contact the facility to have a message relayed. During regular business hours, your call goes to the resident counselor's office, and they'll speak with the resident directly. After hours, on weekends, or during holidays, verified emergencies get passed along as soon as possible.
