What to Bring (and What to Leave Behind) for Your First Visit to Larned
Your first visit to Larned goes smoother when you show up with the right ID, keep your pockets empty, and know what can get you turned away at the door. Here's how to avoid the most common problems.
Bring a valid, government-issued photo ID to check-in. A driver's license or state ID works. Staff will verify your identity before letting you into the visiting area.
Bringing a visitor under 16 who doesn't have photo ID? A copy of an official state-issued birth certificate works instead. Non-U.S. citizens without a U.S. or state government photo ID should bring a valid passport or visa - the facility accepts these for identity verification.
Travel light. Visitors can be searched, and anything considered contraband can end your visit before it starts. Two items are specifically prohibited: cell phones and all tobacco or tobacco-related products. Leave them locked in your car - or better yet, at home.
Expect to be searched. This is how the facility keeps contraband from coming in or going out. Refuse the search, and the shift supervisor can deny your visit - or end it once it's started. Visits can also be denied, suspended, or terminated for other reasons: showing up under the influence, lacking proper ID, giving false information, breaking facility rules, not supervising children, excessive physical contact, or if you or your child appears ill. The shift supervisor can also end a visit for security concerns in the visiting area.
Visiting with kids? Handle the approvals first. Minor children can visit only if they're on the resident's approved visitation list. The adult bringing them must also be approved and must be the child's parent or legal guardian. In some cases, minors aren't allowed to visit at all if the resident is being managed as a sex offender. For ID, children under 16 without photo identification can use a copy of an official state-issued birth certificate.
ID Checklist
- ✓ Bring a valid government-issued photo ID for every adult visitor (and the right alternative ID if needed).

- ✓ If you’re a non-U.S. citizen without a U.S. or state photo ID, bring a valid passport or visa.
- ✓ Leave your cell phone and all tobacco/tobacco-related items in the car or at home - don’t carry them to check-in.
- ✓ If you’re bringing children, confirm they’re approved on the resident’s visitation list and that an approved parent/legal guardian will accompany and supervise them (and be ready to comply with any search requirements).
