What to Expect During Check-In at Lawrence Correctional Center
First-time visits can feel stressful — there are check-in steps that aren't obvious until you're standing at the door. Here's what to expect at Lawrence Correctional Center, from the PVI form to searches, masks, lockers, and medication rules.
First-time visitors need to complete a Prospective Visitor's Interview (PVI) form (DOC 0148) to get approved. The only exception? If you've already received approval through the electronic PVI process ahead of time.
Reminder: Be accurate and honest on the PVI - false information can cost you your visiting privileges.
Expect searches at check-in. All visitors, vehicles, and belongings are subject to search on facility grounds. Keep what you bring simple and easy to inspect.
Heads up: Refusing a search means you'll be denied entry, and your visiting privileges can be suspended or restricted.
At check-in, the facility provides a surgical mask to every visitor over age two. Plan to wear the one they give you as part of the entry process.
Even with a face covering, staff may ask you to briefly lower it for identification purposes. This can happen both when you’re entering and when you’re exiting.
Lawrence's Visiting Room has a strict "leave it outside" rule for everyday items. Cell phones, tablets, smart watches, and other electronics aren't allowed. Neither are purses, bags, books, magazines, sunglasses, or personal keys. Food, drinks, smoking materials, currency, and packages are also prohibited.
