Apply in person at the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office: 1525 Missouri Drive, Mt. Vernon, MO 65712.
Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm - but they close for lunch from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. No appointment needed; just walk in during open hours.
Documents to Bring
- ✓ Training certificate from an approved instructor
- ✓ Valid photo ID showing your current address
The CCW application fee is $100. Payment is accepted by cash (correct amount only) or check.
- ✓ Military discount: $50 fee for current or former military with proof of service (Military ID or DD-214)
Fingerprinting happens at the same location - the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office at 1525 Missouri Drive in Mt. Vernon. They handle fingerprinting for CCW applications along with employment and licensing needs.
Expect to hear back within seven to ten business days after fingerprinting. Approved? The Sheriff's Office will call you. Denied? You'll get written notice in the mail.

- Receive your permit - you’ll be issued your carry conceal permit at the Sheriff’s Office.
Your permit is good for five years. The Sheriff's Office mails renewal notices, so keep an eye on your mailbox as that date approaches.
Moving? You're responsible for notifying the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office. If you're leaving Lawrence County entirely, notify both Lawrence County and the sheriff's office in your new county.
