Visitation

Visiting at Leath Correctional Institution takes a little planning, but the process is straightforward once you're set up. Starting June 1, 2025, most South Carolina adults (18+) with a valid SC driver's license can register for visitation online. Paper applications are still available for minors and for adults without a South Carolina ID (including out-of-state licenses or technical issues). These can be mailed to the Division of Visitation PO Box in Columbia. All visits must be scheduled at least 15 hours in advance through the SCDC/GTL portal. After you register and sign in, you can choose dates and get instant confirmation. General-population inmates with visiting privileges may receive up to four in-person visits per month, limited to one visit per weekend. Leath allows contact visits.

Communication

Virtual visits at Leath Correctional Institution must be scheduled at least 3 days and no more than 7 days in advance. Your account name needs to exactly match the inmate's approved visitation list. You can modify a scheduled visit up to 2 days before the session and cancel up to 1 day before. As of Feb 1, 2025, virtual visits are billed at $0.16 per minute based on the actual length of the visit (older guidance listed a flat $10 fee for a 50-minute visit). Each session can include up to 4 approved visitors, including approved minor children. Be on your device 15 minutes early. All visits are recorded and monitored. Joining from prohibited locations (including bedrooms and bathrooms) or inappropriate behavior can end the visit and lead to discipline or loss of virtual privileges.
